چکیده

In this paper we propose a method to simulate a 3D acoustical environment in which sound sources are positioned in well defined sides. Our method is real-time applications oriented, due to the low computational cost of the implemented operations. The spatial position that human brain assigns to a sound is influenced mainly by the differences between the sound signals that reach the listener’s ears, related to the sound source angulation with respect to the listener’s head. The reverberation effect, on the other side, depends on the type of environment. All this elements have to be simulated in order to give the illusion that a sound comes from a particular position in a particular envirohment. TO obtain this result, we perform a suitable sound processing, that can be separated in two main tasks: reverberation and spatialization. The first one is mainly related to the environment itself: it depends on the shape of the environment and on the absorption coefficients of the walls. This is the most computational intensive component, if we want to reproduce it accurately, so we approximate it by an adaptive IIR filter. By the spatialization, the listener hears the sound as coming from a particular direction. This task, carried out hy using the Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs), has to be applied to every sound source differently.

Computer Modelling and Auralisation of Sound Fields in Rooms - an Overview –

The subject of room simulation attracted the attention for the last few decades. Methods for acoustic simulation of rooms have been developed for purposes of analysis, design, and virtual performance. Geometrical-acoustics based methods, the mirror-image method and the ray-tracing method, have been mainly used. In this paper, the application of diffusion in room acoustics computer models is dis...

The Virtual Acoustic Room by William Grant Gardner

A room may be used for a wide variety of performances and presentations. Each use places different acoustical requirements on the room. We desire a method of electronically controlling the acoustical properties of a room so that one physical space can accommodate various uses. A virtual acoustic room is a room equipped with speakers, microphones and signal processors that functions as an intera...

Full-Duplex Systems for Sound Field Recording and Auralization Based on Wave Field Synthesis

For high-quality multimedia communication systems such as telecollaboration or virtual reality applications, both multichannel sound reproduction and full-duplex capability are highly desirable. Full 3D sound spatialization over a large listening area is offered by wave field synthesis, where arrays of loudspeakers generate a prespecified sound field. However, before this new technique can be u...

From acoustic simulation to virtual auditory displays

Simulation and auralization techniques are used in engineering, architecture, sound design and in applications in hearing research. The components of this technique are acoustic simulations and signal processing tools and the data interfaces in between, for which well-established solutions exist. The main bottlenecks are lack of data of 3D characterization of sound sources and material paramete...
